Abstract

A good financial report provides the information needed for decision making. In presenting the
financial report, the presenter is faced with limitations, one of them is conservatism. Based on several
cases where companies present the financial report of companies that are overstate, it encourages
the need for accounting conservatism. This is so that the users of the financial report can make the
right decisions.
This study aimed to analyze the application of the Positive Accounting Theory perspective on
accounting conservatism. The plan bonus hypothesis, debt covenant hypothesis, and political cost
hypothesis are the perspectives used in this study. The plan bonus hypothesis is proxied by public
ownership, the debt covenant hypothesis is proxied by leverage ratio and the political cost hypothesis
is explained using the company size and is proxied by the natural logarithm of total assets.
The method used was the quantitative method. The samples in this study were manufacturing
companies in the consumer goods industry sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 20172021.
The number of data samples used was 40 samples. The multiple linear regression was used to test the hypothesis.
The results indicated that the public ownership and firm size had no significant effect on accounting
conservatism, while the leverage ratio had a significant effect on accounting conservatism. In
addition, public ownership, leverage ratio, and firm size together had an effect on accounting
conservatism.
